Hold your hand in front of your face. What do you see? Not much on the outside, but if you could look inside, it is an amazingly complex instrument. Composed of dozens of bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons and nerves, hands are strong, yet delicate, durable but seemingly fragile. Hands can fly across keyboards and piano keys, wield a baseball bat, flip a pancake, stir a delectable sauce, open a jelly jar and steer a powerful car.
Hands can also hurt. Repetitive stress injuries, arthritis, tendonitis, nerve compression caused by carpal or cubital tunnel syndromes, all can cause pain and limit the hand's mobility. The orthopedic surgeons at the CMHS Orthopedic Center can keep your fingers flexible by diagnosing and properly treating hand problems. Medication, wrist or hand support, and physical therapy are the most common treatment options for hand problems. If you have constant pain in your hands, you have two options: keep your fingers crossed and hope it'll go away, or you can contact the orthopedic surgeons at the CMHS Orthopedic Center who are board certified and skilled in all manners of orthopedic surgery, including hand surgery.
